Bueno, pues yo creo que ya es incontable el numero de fotografías que he sacado a portales y puertas de casas y edificios de distintos estilos que me he encontrado no solo en Bucarest y Rumania sino en todos los países por los que hemos pasado. Realmente las puertas aportan un gran valor como elemento arquitectónico realzando la estética de los edificios donde se encuentran. Hay verdaderas maravillas en esta ciudad dentro de ese estilo de renacimiento rumano que se puede encontrar escondido en tantos rincones aquí. Y da gusto ver como muchas de ellas, tan imponentes, recobran todo su fuerza y presencia en los edificios y villas que sin pausa se van restaurando en esta ciudad. Algún día tendré que hacer algo con todas esas fotos… ———————oo0oo————– Well, I think it is already countless the number of photographs I have taken to portals and doors of houses and buildings of different styles that I have found not only in Bucharest and Romania but in all the countries we have visited or lived in. They really provide great value as an architectural element enhancing the aesthetics of the buildings where they are located. There are real wonders in this city, specially in the Romanian renaissance style buildings that can be found hidden in so many corners here. And it is nice to see how many of them, so imposing, recover all their strength and presence in the buildings and villas that are being restored without pause in this city. Someday I’ll have to do something with all those pictures…
Abril / April 2023. Reflexionando
Bueno, pues este mes me he dedicado a recapitular sobre la exposición de marzo pasado, reflexionar, planear el futuro artístico y ver cuales van a ser los siguientes pasos y posibles hitos. Repasando fotos me ha venido a la memoria que hace ahora justo diez años, cuando vivíamos en EEUU, pasamos unos días en Gettysburg y recorrimos el campo de batalla, que esta plagado de monumentos que recuerdan aquel momento en la historia de los EEUU y que incluye el Cementerio Nacional de Gettysburg. Curiosamente, allí a los gobernantes no se les ocurre destruir dichos monumentos, que recuerdan la batalla clave en la que los EEUU del Norte se impusieron a los Estados Confederados del Sur. De hecho, recibe cientos de miles de visitantes cada año. En fin, siglos de historia contemplan a España, una nación que fue la primera potencia global y sin la cual no se podría comprender el mundo actual. Y aquí seguimos generando políticos tan incapaces, que nos quieren convencer de que destruyendo, es la mejor manera de construir el futuro… ———————oo0oo————– Well, this month I have been recapitulating on last March’s exhibition. I reflected, started to plan the artistic future and tried to think about the next steps and possible milestones. Reviewing photos it has come to my mind that just ten years ago, when we lived in the USA, we spent a few days in Gettysburg and toured the battlefield, which is full of monuments that remember that key moment in the history of the USA. The site includes the Gettysburg National Cemetery. Over there, the government do not think to destroy it, which recall the key battle in which the United States of the North imposed itself on the Confederate States of the South. In fact, Gettysburg receives hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. In short, centuries of history contemplate Spain, a nation that was the first global power and without which the current world could not be understood. And here we continue to generate politicians so incapable, that they want to convince us that destroying is the best way to build the future…
Marzo / March 2023. Exposicion «Romania Frumoasa».
Bueno, pues que tenía ganas yo de compartir mis ultimos dibujos sobre rincones pintorescos de Rumania… Así que me lié la manta a la cabeza y he organizado la exposicion “Romania frumoasa” (Rumania bonita) de nuevo en la galeria del Circulo Militar Nacional, en el centro de Bucarest, desde el 13 al 26 de marzo. La embajada de España en Bucarest ha apoyado la exposicion. Cuarenta obras entre esculturas, oleos, acuarelas y dibujos, la mayoria de ellas con motivos rumanos. Oye, que me han entrevistado Radio Romania Actualitat, han salido reportajes de mi expo en la tele; en el programa TVR Cultural, en la TVR 1, en el programa militar de la TVR 1 y han publicado un articulo en el periodico “Observatorul Militar”… Ha tenido una muy buena aceptacion y ha pasado un buen numero de gente por ella. Estoy contento. A la gente le ha gustado mi obra. Algo me dice que esto no ha hecho mas que empezar. La siguiente, en España. ———————oo0oo————– Well, it seems that I wanted to share my latest drawings about picturesque corners of Romania… So I displayed the exhibition “Romania frumoasa” (beautiful Romania) at the gallery of the National Military Circle, downtown Bucharest, from March 13 to 26. Forty works including sculptures, oils, watercolors and drawings, most of them with Romanian motifs. I have been interviewed by Radio Romania Actualitat, the TVR Cultural program, TVR 1, the military program of TVR 1, and an article has been published in the newspaper “Observatorul Militar”. Not bad at all! The exhibition had very good acceptance and many people visited it. I am quite happy with the outcome. The people liked my artwork. Something is telling me that it has only just begun. The next one in Spain!
Febrero / February 2023. Antonio Maria Fabres y Costa
Bueno, bueno, bueno… que casualmente me he encontrado con el original de un dibujo que me tiene maravillado desde el dia que lo pillé en internet, hace ya unos cuantos años. Es el que podeis ver en la imagen, “Arabe con mosquete”, del pintor modernista español Antonio Fabrés y Costa. Y mira por donde que he tenido que dar con el original aquí en Rumania, en la exposicion “Maestros de la pintura española del siglo XIX”, que se puede visitar hasta el 15 de mayo en el palacio Dacia-Rumania, en el centro de Bucarest. Ahí se puede disfrutar de obras de Joaquin Sorolla, Mariano Fortuny, Raimundo de Madrazo, Jose Maria Gallegos y otros maestros españoles de la época. ¡Una autentica sorpresa y una gozada! ¡Que exposicion más bonita!. Bucarest, una ciudad sorprendente… ———————–oo0oo————– Well, well, well… by chance I have found the original of a drawing that has amazed me since the day I found it on the internet, long time ago. This is the one you can see in the image, “Arab with a musket”, by the Spanish modernist painter Antonio Fabrés y Costa. And I have found the original here in Romania, thanks to the exhibition «Masters of 19th-century Spanish painting», which can be visited until May 15 at the Dacia-Romania palace, in Bucharest downtown. There you can enjoy works by Joaquin Sorolla, Mariano Fortuny, Raimundo de Madrazo, Jose Maria Gallegos and other Spanish masters of the time. A real surprise and a real joy! What a beautiful exhibition! Bucharest, always an amazing city…
Enero / January 2023. De vuelta al oleo.
Bueno, pues esto del arte es un camino que nunca sabes por donde te va a llevar… Asi que de una manera u otra, he vuelto a coger los pinceles. Y en esta ocasión acompañados de los oleos. Hace ahora unos cinco años que pinte mi ultimo oleo, viviamos entonces en Estrasburgo. Despues vino una etapa de acuarela en Madrid y despues vuelta a la base de la pintura, dibujando mucho a lapiz y plumilla. En fin, un laberinto… Pero algo me dice que no solo hay una lógica detras de todos estos giros, sino que además es el momento de volver al oleo… ¡Pero si casi ni me acuerdo de como se hacía eso! Pues eso, que ahi estamos de nuevo con el oleo, pero ahora con un planteamiento muy distinto al de entonces. Crucemos los dedos… ———————–oo0oo————– Well, this art thing is a path that you never know where it will take you… So one way or another, I have picked up the brushes again. And this time, together with the oils. It makes around five years since I painted my last oil. We lived in Strasbourg at that time. Then it came a period of watercolor in Madrid and then back to the base of painting, that´s to say, drawing a lot with pencil and pen. Kind of a labyrinth… However, something tells me that there is not only a logic behind all these twists, but also that it is time to return to oil painting… But, If I hardly remember how to do that! Well, here we are again with oil painting, but now with a very different approach than then. Lets cross the fingers…
Diciembre / December 2022. La vida en el campo es la vida mejor
Bueno, pues durante este y parte del pasado mes, he podido volver a disfrutar de veinte dias del tiron en plena naturaleza. En esta ocasión en un lugar de Transilvania rodeado de fantasticos bosques, llenos de robles centenarios, que todavia mantenían algunos de los colores del otoño. Otro ejercicio importante de OTAN ha conseguido ese milagro. Vuelta otra vez al saco de dormir, poder observar esos maravilllosos amaneceres con sus distintas tonalidades en el cielo, sentir el frio de primera hora de la mañana de un mes de diciembre en plena Transilvania. Comida de rancho y mucha camaradería. Es decir, la esencia de la milicia. ¡Algo realmente fantástico! Y por supuesto, aprovechando para dibujar durante los pocos ratos libres. Vida en plena naturaleza. ———————–oo0oo————– Well, during this month and part of the past month, I have been able to enjoy twenty days in a row in the middle of nature. This time in Transylvania, surrounded by fantastic forests, plenty of century-old oaks, that still kept some of the colors of autumn. A major NATO exercise has been the reason for this. Back to the sleeping bag, being able to feel these marvelllous sunrises with their different shades in the sky, feeling the cold early in the morning in December in the middle of Transylvania. Ranch food and lots of camaraderie. That is, the essence of the military life. Something really fantastic! And of course, taking the opportunity to draw during the few existing free moments. Life in plein nature.
Octubre / October 2022. En la opera.
Este mes se ha abierto la temporada en la Opera Nacional de Bucarest. Y para allá que nos hemos ido. La opera en Bucarest tiene una larga y rica tradicion, desde que allá por 1772 se llevó a cabo la primera funcion de opera en la ciudad. Actualmente Bucarest tiene una gran oferta artistica en cuanto a opera, teatro y conciertos en los edificios de la opera y del teatro nacional, asi como en el Ateneo Romano. Por otra parte, los precios aquí son más que asequibles. Asi que no hay escusa para no atreverse a disfrutar de dicha oferta. En esta ocasión ha sido ”La boheme” de Giacomo Puccini, pero esto no ha hecho mas que empezar… Un disfrute para los sentidos. —————oo0oo————— The Opera season has started this month at the Bucharest National Opera. And there we went! The opera in Bucharest has a long and rich tradition, since 1772 when the first opera performance in the city was held. Currently Bucharest has a great artistic offer in terms of opera, theater and concerts in the buildings of the opera and the national theater, as well as in the Roman Athenaeum. On the other hand, the prices here are more than affordable. So there is no excuse not to dare to enjoy it. This time it was «La boheme» by Giacomo Puccini, but this has only just begun… An enjoyment for the senses!
Septiembre / September 2022. Monumento a los Tercios en Madrid
¡Bueno, bueno, bueno, que cabeza la mia! Por si alguien no se ha enterado todavia… Por fin se ha conseguido el objetivo de poner un monumento a los Tercios en la ciudad de Madrid, más exactamente en el paseo de la Castellana. Todo ello gracias a una campaña de micromecenazgo, que se cerró el pasado mes de julio, donde se han recaudado más de 200.000 euros gracias a la aportacion de más de 1600 mecenas. ¡Entre los que me incluyo! Ya estamos en la recta final, pues el escultor Salvador Amaya ya ha comenzado el proyecto apoyado en bocetos del pintor Ferrer Dalmau. ¡Un momumento que por fin hace justicia a la mejor infanteria del mundo, que fué la base en la que se asento el Imperio Español! —————oo0oo————— Well, well, well, what a head I have! In case anyone hasn’t figured it out yet… Finally, the goal of setting up a monument to the Spanish Tercios in the city of Madrid has been achieved. It will be located in the Paseo de la Castellana, This has been achieved thanks to a crowdfunding campaign, which closed last month of July, where more than 200,000 euros have been raised thanks to the contribution of more than 1,600 patrons. Among which I include myself! We are already in the final stretch, since the sculptor Salvador Amaya has already started the project supported by sketches of the painter Ferrer Dalmau. A monument that finally does justice to the best infantry in the world, which was the base on which the Spanish Empire settled!
Agosto / August 2022. Practice makes masters
En verano, especialmente en un mes de agosto tan caluroso como este, parece que el exceso de calor te va a quitar las ganas de dibujar, pero no, ¡No ha sido así, ha, ha…!. Este mes le he estado dando duro al lapiz y a la tinta asi como escudriñando una vez más los dibujos de los Maestros. En este momento estoy centrado en el dibujo arquitectonico a tinta y disfrutando de los fantasticos ejemplos del estilo “Brancoveanesc”, puramente rumano, que se pueden encontrar en la ciudad de Bucarest. Si bien siempre hay altos y bajos en un proceso de aprendizaje continuado como es este, ultimamente empieza a darme la impresion de que poco a poco me voy acercando al nivel que busco conseguir. Y en ocasiones quiero creer que dicho nivel ya no está tan lejos. No se todavia…, habra que tener un poco de paciencia. Este es el caso de uno de los dibujos que he hecho este mes. Se trata de un dibujo a tinta de una fantastica casa de estilo “Brancoveanesc” que he encontrado no lejos de mi barrio. Espero seguir en esta linea. Y espero que os guste. —————oo0oo————— In summer, especially in a month of August as hot as this one, it seems that the extreme heat is going to vanish the desire to draw, but no, it has not been the case, ha, ha…!. This month I have been hitting the pencil and the ink as much as I could as well as scrutinizing once again the drawings of the Masters. At the moment I am focused on architectural ink drawing and enjoying the fantastic examples of the purely Romanian “Brancoveanesc” style that can be found in the city of Bucharest. Although there are always ups and downs in a continuous learning process like this, lately I’m starting to get under the impression that little by little I’m getting closer to the level I’m looking for. And sometimes I want to believe that this level is not so far away. I do not know it yet… This is the case of one of the drawings I have carried away this month. It is an ink drawing of a fantastic “Brancoveanesc” style house that I found not far from my neighborhood. I hope I can continue in this line. I hope you like the drawing.
Julio / July 2022. Décimo aniversario.
¡Que estamos de celebracion! ¡Pues resulta que este pasado mes de mayo, esta pagina web y su blog han cumplido 10 años! Con tanto ajetreo, casi se me olvida… Y ahora es cuando toca decir: ¡Como pasa el tiempo! En la primera entrada en este blog, en mayo de 2012, sentado en aquel magnifico Corvette de 1957 en algun lugar de la ruta 66 en Arizona (EEUU), os dije que esperaba que esta aventura artistica fuera de largo recorrido a la vez que apasionante. Creo que 10 años ya se pueden considerar un recorrido respetable. Y en este instante no veo el final del mismo, pues hay ahora más planes y proyectos que entonces… Y sin duda esta siendo apasionante, pues si en un principio me centraba en la escultura, esta ha dejado paso a etapas de dibujo a tinta y a lapiz, de acuarela, de oleo, para volver con mas fuerza al dibujo a tinta y combinando distintos medios. He hecho exposiciones, entrado de lleno en las redes sociales… Pero sin duda, lo mejor de todo, es que en estos años mi tecnica ha evolucionado a mejor y eso es lo que realmente me impulsa a continuar esta aventura. El lema de la COE 52 se ha vuelto a hacer realidad: “No hay a su pie risco vedado…” Pues eso, diez años despues, en esta ocasión desde Rumanía, estamos de celebración.¡A por otros 10 años! Gracias por estar ahi y visitar mi arte. —————oo0oo————— We are celebrating! Since it turns out that last May, this website and this blog have turned 10 years old! With so much hustle and bustle, I almost forgot about it… And now is when it’s time to say: Time flies! Right? In my first post on this blog, in May 2012, sitting in that magnificent 1957 Corvette somewhere on Route 66 in Arizona (USA), I told you that I hoped this artistic adventure to be long-distance and exciting. I think that a 10 year period can already be considered a respectable journey. And right now I don’t see the end of it, since there are now more plans and projects than then… And without a doubt it is being exciting, because if at first I focused on sculpture, this has given way to stages of drawing in ink and pencil, watercolor, oil, to return more strongly to ink drawing as well as combining different media. I have made exhibitions, entered fully into social networks… But without a doubt, the best of all is that in these years my technique has evolved to the better and that is what really drives me to continue with this adventure. The motto of the COE 52 has come true again: “There is no closed cliff to his foot…” Well, now, ten years later, in this occasion from Romania, we are celebrating. Let’s go for some 10 years more!
