Septiembre / September 2012. La «Torpedo Factory» de Alexandria.
He presentado otra de mis esculturas, en este caso el “Pino Mediterráneo” ante el jurado de la “Art league Gallery” para una exposición titulada “La forma de las cosas”. La figura fue seleccionada para la exposición, que ha estado en marcha desde principios de Agosto a principios de Septiembre 2012 en la “Torpedo Factory” de Alexandria. ———————————–ooo0ooo—————————————– I submitted one of my figures, the “Mediterranean Pine Tree” to the Art League jury for an exhibit called “Shape of Things”. The figure was accepted and exhibited with the rest of the pieces in the Torpedo Factory from Aug to Sep 2012, in old town Alexandria. The Torpedo Factory Art Center with nearly 2,000 square feet of exhibit space and over 1,000 members, guarantees the visitors a chance to see the best visual art in the mid-Atlantic region.
Agosto / August 2012. La casa de la cascada de Frank Lloyd Wright.
Llevo ya una temporada sin esculpir. La falta de tiempo, el excesivo calor, la falta de inspiración… En definitiva; todo son excusas. A la inspiración no hay que esperarla, hay que ir a cazarla. Así que me fui al bosque, a los Montes Allegheny, en los Apalaches. Allí me encontré una joya, la “Casa de la Cascada”. Siempre soñé con visitar la obra maestra de Frank Lloyd Wright. Siempre viéndola en libros de arte y resulta que ahora la tengo a cuatro horas de casa, en Pennsylvania. Y en este país eso no es distancia… Impresionante. La visita guiada es pura magia. Suficiente para cargar las pilas. Ahora a trabajar… ———————————–ooo0ooo———————————————- I have not worked in any of my unfinished sculptures for a while. It seems that there is always an excuse for not doing it. So, I decided to go and find the inspiration instead of waiting for it to knock on my door. I went to the Allegheny Mts, in Pennsylvania and I found a jewel there; the “Fallingwater house”. The master piece of Frank Lloyd Wright. I always dreamt about visiting it and now it happened to be just around the corner. What is it, four hours drive in this huge country? Just a walk in the park… It was worth the guided visit. It was a kind of magic! Now my batteries are fully charged. So, let’s start working!
Julio / July 2012. Nyumbani.
Una de mis esculturas, formo parte de una subasta benéfica que se organizo en una mansión de McLean, Virginia (EEUU), con la finalidad de obtener fondos para Nyumbani. Nyumbani es una ONG internacional no gubernamental y no lucrativa creada como respuesta activa al creciente número de niños que se ven afectados por la pandemia del SIDA en Kenia. Su tarea es ofrecer a los pequeños afectados por el VIH el mejor cuidado nutricional, médico, psicológico y social posible con la finalidad de permitirles recuperar lo antes posible su autonomía y los medios necesarios para vivir sin depender de la asistencia exterior. Bien por Nyumbani! ———————————–ooo0ooo———————————————- One of my sculptures was included in an auction celebrated in McLean VA, in order to get funds for the NGO Nyumbani. Nyumbani is an active response to the rising number of HIV infected children born in Africa. Tragically these children are often abandoned anyway, on the mistaken assumption that they are certain to develop and eventually succumb to AIDS. At Nyumbani, (‘home’ in Swahili), children who are found to be HIV+ are given the best nutritional, medical, in particular, anti-retroviral therapy, psychological, academic, spiritual care available and live at Nyumbani until they become self-reliant. Junio / June 2012. La «Art League Gallery».
Este mes he presentado una de mis esculturas, el ‘Tambor de la Unión” ante el jurado de la “Art league Gallery” en la “Torpedo Factory” de Alexandria. Este jurado está compuesto por profesionales de museos, galerías y universidades del mundo de las bellas artes que evalúan las obras los miembros de la “Art league Gallery”. Mi figura ha sido seleccionada para la exposición… No está nada mal, pues no es fácil pasar el corte. Cada mes se presentan más de 600 obras y únicamente 100 de ellas son seleccionadas. ————————————-oooOooo——————————————- I submitted my “Union drummer” to the Art League jury in the Torpedo Factory, in old town Alexandria. And it was selected for the June exhibition. Cool! The Art League Gallery provides opportunities for local artists to have their work juried by visual arts professionals from area museums, galleries and universities. The Art League Gallery is a membership gallery located on the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria. With nearly 2,000 square feet of exhibit space and over 1,000 members; visitors are guaranteed a chance to see the best visual art in the mid-Atlantic region.
