AGOSTO / AUGUST 2025. Vuelta a la escultura.
Bueno, pues este mes, aparte de subir a dibujar repetidas veces a la Alhambra y poder disfrutar de su hechizo, he desempolvado los archiperres de esculpir a la cera perdida y le he dedicado un buen rato a ello. Hacía ya una buena temporada que no me dedicaba a esa tarea, pero las oportunidades salen cuando uno menos se lo espera… Realmente es una sensación maravillosa y un placer el volver a ver “crecer” una figura desde un bloque original de cera. Guardando las distancias, me viene a la memoria aquel bloque de mármol “el gigante” que durante muchos años estuvo tirado frente a la catedral de Florencia, pues era supuestamente defectuoso y que posteriormente Miguel Ángel recogió y convirtió en el David y del que decía que dicho personaje estaba ya dentro del bloque, solo había que sacarlo, ha, ha… Por otra parte, compruebo que después de unos años sin esculpir nuevas obras, no se pierde la mano, lo que es una satisfacción grande. Pues eso, entre dibujo y dibujo, escultura… Un planazo. —————oo0oo————— Back to sculpture. Well, this month, aside from going up to the Alhambra a number of times to draw and to enjoy its magic, I’ve dusted off my lost-wax sculpting tools and dedicated a good amount of time to it. It’s been a while since last time I worked with this media, but opportunities arise when you least expect it… It’s truly a wonderful feeling and a pleasure to see a figure «grow» from an original block of wax. All things considered, it comes to my mind that block of marble, «the Giant,» that lay in front of Florence Cathedral for many years. It was supposedly defective, and Michelangelo took it and turned it into his David. He said that the figure was already inside the block; all that needed was to be taken out, ha, ha… On the other hand, I find that after a few years without sculpting new works, I have not lost the skills, which is great. Well, between drawing and drawing, some sculpting… Sounds like a great plan!

Una de mis esculturas, formo parte de una subasta benéfica que se organizo en una mansión de McLean, Virginia (EEUU), con la finalidad de obtener fondos para Nyumbani. Nyumbani es una ONG internacional no gubernamental y no lucrativa creada como respuesta activa al creciente número de niños que se ven afectados por la pandemia del SIDA en Kenia. Su tarea es ofrecer a los pequeños afectados por el VIH el mejor cuidado nutricional, médico, psicológico y social posible con la finalidad de permitirles recuperar lo antes posible su autonomía y los medios necesarios para vivir sin depender de la asistencia exterior. Bien por Nyumbani! ———————————–ooo0ooo———————————————- One of my sculptures was included in an auction celebrated in McLean VA, in order to get funds for the NGO Nyumbani. Nyumbani is an active response to the rising number of HIV infected children born in Africa. Tragically these children are often abandoned anyway, on the mistaken assumption that they are certain to develop and eventually succumb to AIDS. At Nyumbani, (‘home’ in Swahili), children who are found to be HIV+ are given the best nutritional, medical, in particular, anti-retroviral therapy, psychological, academic, spiritual care available and live at Nyumbani until they become self-reliant.
