Noviembre / November 2012. «The march to Valley Forge».

I have just finished a figure that was on the top of my table for more than a year.

This is George Washington on horseback, based on W. Trego’s painting; “The march to Valley Forge”. This painting is amazing. It depicts the Continental Army during the winter of 1777, ill-equipped and weary from long marches . That was a key moment in the Revolutionary War since Washington’s Army, struggling to survive against terrible odds, was able to cope with the harsh winter, to become some months later a well trained force ready to fight British forces. This painting represents the triumph of the will and also the birth of a nation. With no doubt it was a perfect motto for a sculpture.

Initially I wanted to copy Washington’s image in the painting, however I finally decided to put a personal touch on it. Here you are the outcome. In some months the final figure in bronze will be ready.
