Julio / July 2015.

This year marks the 500th anniversary of the death of one of the most remarkable Spanish military leaders; Gonzalo Fernandez de Cordoba, “The Great Captain” (1453-1515). Serving the queen Isabel “La Catolica” he displayed a talent that was evident in many military campaigns and that became epic through his victories in the battles of Cerignola and Garigliano in 1503 against the French cavalry.

The Great Captain devoted much time to the study and research of new weapons and combat techniques, as well as the study of the lessons of military history. He developed the first military program to train new soldiers. He is credited with the creation of the Spanish Tercios and Coronelías that would fight in the European battle fields for the following centuries, making out of the Spanish Infantry the best infantry ever.

Well, it happens that I have been honored with the commission of a small figure of “The Great Captain”, replica of the fantastic figure of the sculptor Antonio Colmeiro that can be seen in the courtyard of the Palacio de Buenavista, home of the Army Headquarters in Madrid.

And here you can see it finished. Hope you like it!
